October 2026 - A Round Up On What Has Been Happening

• I completed typing up the report of the recent dementia friendly premises assessment I carried out on South Brent Village Hall.

• I continued visiting businesses and organisations in Ivybridge with Councillor Crystal Cao, to offer them support to become dementia friendly.

• I have continued co-facilitating the fortnightly carer’s group at Tumbly Hill Wellbeing Hub in Kingsbridge (06/10/26 and 20/10/26).

• I met with one of the Salcombe Town Councillors again (05/10/26) to discuss a provisional first year plan they have drafted to work towards Salcombe becoming dementia friendly and possible support that could be offered to them by 4RDA.

• I attended a webinar by the Centre for Ageing Better about designing an age friendly built environment (05/10/26).

• I delivered a dementia awareness session for Howard-Over Solicitors in Ivybridge (13/10/26). 10 members of the team attended and it was well received.

• I wrote a draft mini guide for solicitors on how to become dementia-friendly, which will need editing shortly.

• I attended the annual Mewstone Primary Care Network Day (15/10/26) in Plymouth with my information stand, promoting the work of both Four Rivers Dementia Alliance and Dementia Friendly Parishes around the Yealm.

• The dementia awareness session that was planned for any businesses in Ivybridge to attend (19/10/26) unfortunately had to be cancelled due to not enough people being booked onto it.

A few other things in the pipeline are:

• I will continue visiting businesses in Ivybridge with Councillor Crystal Cao, encouraging them to consider working towards becoming dementia-friendly.

• The work supporting Tumbly Hill Wellbeing Hub in Kingsbridge will be continuing.

• I will continue to type up the reports for the various dementia friendly premises assessments I have carried out in recent weeks e.g. St Petroc’s church and parish room in south Brent, Ivybridge Library and the Woolwell Centre.

• I will be attending the next Dementia Support South Devon Forum meeting in Ashburton (05/11/26) where I will give an update on the work of both 4RDA and Dementia Friendly Parishes around the Yealm.

• Following a recent meeting I had with the vice chair of Ermington Parish Council to, I will be carrying out a dementia friendly premises assessment of the Hub and Reading Rooms in Ermington (09/11/26) and will compile subsequent reports for both of them.

• I will be delivering a dementia awareness session to the practice manager and members of the domiciliary team at BUPA Dental Care in Ivybridge (23/11/26).

• I will be delivering a dementia awareness session to members of the catering team at The Watermark in Ivybridge (24/11/26).
